8vo. xxviii, [4], 675pp, [1]. Handsomely bound in contemporary richly gilt-tooled tree-calf, contrasting calf lettering-piece, A.E.G., marbled endpapers. Lightly rubbed and sunned. Scattered spotting. Inked inscription to recto of front blank fly-leaf: 'Frederic William Coleridge from his affectionate Papa on his being sent up for Good for the first time. July 1840. August 1st 1840', with ownership inscription of J. T. Coleridge beneath.
A handsomely bound Regency edition of Caesar's commentaries on the Gallic War, edited by philologist and archaeologist Jérémie-Jacques Oberlin (1735-1806).

Provenance: Presented by nephew of Romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Taylor Coleridge (1790-1876), to his son Frederic William Coleridge (1829-1843).
